    I am Amy Flaherty and I am so excited to be joining TCAPS Montessori this year.  I was born and raised in Traverse City then went off to college and recieved a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education (Early Childhood Endorsement). I began my teaching career in a traditional Kindergarten classroom in the fall of 1997.  The following year I was trained in Reading Recovery which is a reading program to help students begin to read.  I continued to teach kindergarten and Reading Recovery in the Detroit area and then Vermont before returning home to Traverse City in 2004.  I began with TCAPS in 2004 teaching kindergarten.  The last two years I have been at The Children's House in a primary setting.
    I have two daughters who are the light of my life! When my oldest Sydney was about two I began looking into the Montessori approach.  I instantly fell in love with it and knew it was going to somehow fit into my career. Sydney began her primary year in 2007 and as she finished her first year I began my first summer in St. Louis where I would receive my Montessori training.  "We" graduated from primary three years later. 
    Your children will hear many stories about Sydney and McKenna along with our dog Louis.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends doing just about anything. I spend my free-time doing yoga, running, biking, and reading.
    I am looking forward to bonding with each of you this and believe this will be a phenomenal educational experience for your child.
