Welcome to Ms. Becky’s Montessori Classroom. I have been a Montessori Directress for over 15 years. My dominant belief is that children learn best by actively participating. Maria Montessori was a pioneer of her time who believed in following the child. In simplest terms, I am all about the child and providing a rich environment for them to learn.
A little bit about me: I grew up near East Lansing the daughter of a teacher. While earning an advanced Associates Degree in Business, and teaching and coaching swimming, I took another part-time job as a teacher’s aide with the Okemos/Radmoor Montessori School and never looked back. I spent a full year studying and learning at the Toronto Montessori Institute where I earned my Montessori International Primary degree. While teaching at Radmoor I earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with minors in science and art from Michigan State University. Go Spartans!
My husband Brian and I relocated to Charlevoix where I taught both kindergarten and third grade at St. Mary’s Catholic school; earned an Early Childhood teaching endorsement from Central Michigan University; worked as a Montessori consultant, and served on the Board of Directors for the Charlevoix Montessori Children’s House where my children attended. We moved to Traverse City 10 years ago and I taught pre-primary impaired children and young 5’s for Suttons Bay Schools before TCAPS recruited me to become their first Montessori Directress in its new program. As the program grew I moved into my current position and earned a Montessori International Certificate for Lower Elementary from the North American Montessori Center while completing my Masters Degree in Reading & Literacy K-12 in the same year. I graduated summa cum laude from CMU with a Reading Specialist endorsement as well. Go Chips!
I’ve managed to collect three active and successful children along the way: one at East Middle School; a senior at Central, and my oldest at NMC. We know all three were well served by their start in a Montessori program.
I enjoy being a Montessori teacher and I come from a rich background in education and experience working with children. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.
