The Health and Wellness Committee focuses on issues related to the well being of our students and staff. We work to incorporate the cafeteria as part of our Montessori environment, and support the teachers and staff in bringing nutrition education to the classrooms and cafeteria. Additionally, we work on general wellness issues that…
Over the last two years, here are some of the things we’ve accomplished:
* Painted the cafeteria.
* Supplied a microwave for students to use during lunches.
* Supported Mrs. Camp's initiative to get round tables in the lunch room.
* Initiated student clean up helpers who take turns cleaning up the cafeteria after lunch so that it is pleasant for the next lunch.
* Implemented water as a beverage at lunch – supplying pitchers, cups and parent volunteers to make this happen.
* We have had the students measure the amount of food waste.
* We support special meals.
* This year, we are working to help the students plan several Friday lunches throughout the year.
In terms of nutrition education, we have:
* Supplied the classrooms with local and nutritious foods for tastings.
* Helped the students try new foods and shared recipes (using kale and sweet potatoes for example).
* We are working on additional support for nutritional education in the classrooms this year, culminating in a Health and Wellness Open House in April.
*The Health and Wellness Committee has worked with school staff to develop a Health and Wellness Action Plan.
